About the Garfield Jazz Foundation
Garfield Jazz is part of the nationally recognized Fine Arts Department at Garfield High School in Seattle Washington.
The Garfield Jazz Foundation (GJF) is the parent-run booster group that supports Garfield Jazz. The GJF actively raises funds to provide scholarships for families, offset travel costs for every family and provide instruments, clinicians, and other necessities that keep the program going year after year. Our goal is to ensure that every student can participate and grow as a musician.
Providing an outstanding music education experience is expensive but no student is turned away from the program due to financial need or constraints. The Garfield Jazz Foundation’s mission is to offset the costs of running a Jazz program like Garfield, making it accessible to as many students as possible. GJF provides a scholarship program to ensure that all motivated students are able to participate fully in the performance schedule. Read about The Clarence Acox Jazz Endowment (CAJE).
The GJF holds monthly meetings (the first Monday of every month) and all Garfield Jazz parents and guardians are welcome to attend. The agenda for these meetings are focused on all of the activities that the GJF does to support the program including updates on fundraising, trips, performances and festivals. The meetings also serve as a way to help families learn more about how they can get involved.
In addition, the GJF holds an annual meeting, usually in June, during which the next year’s Board members are elected and budget approved.
