Auditions for Jazz Band

All tryouts for the Garfield Jazz Ensemble take place in the band room at Lincoln High School, located at 4400 Interlake Avenue North in Seattle. Students should enter through the Woodlawn Avenue (east) entrance.

Auditions for students interested in participating in the Garfield Jazz Ensemble(s) will be as follows:

New students (those who have never played in a Garfield jazz band) may select one of the dates below to audition. Just show up with your instrument and sign in. Drums, amps, and piano will be provided. It is also advised that not everyone wait until the Wednesday to audition if at all possible. If that is the only day you can audition, then come on that day. We'd like to spread them out. Just select one of the following days:

Monday, Aug. 25^th 11:00 AM

Tuesday, Aug. 26^th 11:00 AM

Wednesday, Aug. 27^th 11:00 AM

What to expect You will be required to:

Play one or two of the 12 major scales
Sight-read music in different styles

You may also:

Prepare a piece of your choice to play (this is not mandatory)
Improvise (this is not mandatory)

Drummers will be required to:

Play Swing and Latin styles at varied tempos
Sight-read

Returning Jazz Ensemble members' audition dates:

Thursday, Aug. 28^th 11:00 AM

Friday, Aug. 29^th 11:00 AM
